Frequently Asked Questions

How can I dispose of Richards products

Disposal Guidelines:

At Richards Manufacturing, we are committed to environmental responsibility throughout the entire life cycle of our products, including disposal. While our products are designed to endure in-service for many decades, the actual service life of a product can differ depending on several factors including application/service conditions and weather or natural disaster events. Additionally, customers occasionally remove products from service in the process of making equipment repairs, reconfiguring circuits, and for other operational reasons. Proper disposal of these products ensures compliance with local environmental regulations and helps support sustainability efforts.

Below is guidance on how to dispose of our products by category:

Network Protectors

Materials: Primarily composed of, but not limited to, steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, ceramics, plastics, electronics, and fiberglass.

Disposal Guidance: Follow all applicable local, state, and federal regulations for disposal or recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.

Recycling Program: Richards Manufacturing offers a recycling and disposal program for Network Protectors. Contact us to inquire further. Richards will arrange for pickup and handle material disposal and recycling.

Note: Legacy OEM Network Protectors (legacy units not built by Richards Manufacturing) may contain hazardous materials, including asbestos. Exercise caution and consult local hazardous waste guidelines.

Medium Voltage & Connector Products

Materials: Primarily composed of, but not limited to, EPDM rubber (insulative and semi-conductive), plastic, copper, aluminum, steel, brass, and bronze.

Disposal Guidance: Separate components when possible and follow local environmental regulations regarding the disposal or recycling of each material type.

Natural Gas Products

Materials: Typically made from cast iron, plastic, and epoxy coatings.

Disposal Guidance: Follow local disposal regulations. Some components may be recyclable (e.g., iron), while others may require special handling due to coating materials.
