The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in driving continuous improvement in Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) performance and risk reduction. This role serves as the primary EHS&S technical expert across all functions and is responsible for ensuring a compliant, safe, and sustainable workplace for employees, visitors, and contractors. Key Responsibilities:
Build strong relationships across the campus to promote continuous EHS&S improvement, leadership and employee engagement, and a proactive, compliance-driven safety culture.
Lead and manage EHS&S metrics, reports, permits, and regulatory documentation in alignment with local, state, federal, and corporate requirements.
Prepare and communicate EHS&S performance reports for internal stakeholders, global partners, and regulatory agencies.
Conduct EHS risk assessments (e.g., Safety Risk Assessments, PPE Hazard Assessments, Industrial Hygiene Assessments) and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
Lead and execute EHS&S projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Ensure all EHS&S programs are compliant with applicable regulations, corporate standards, and industry best practices.
Promote compliance and risk mitigation through robust EHS programs, leadership engagement, employee training, inspections, and audits.
Maintain all site permits, licenses, and certifications to ensure uninterrupted operations and compliance.
Manage the EHS event reporting, investigation, and communication process per company protocols.
Implement the Serious Injury & Fatality Prevention (SIFP) program with a focus on identifying and responding to precursors.
Develop and manage the EHS budget, ensuring cost-effective program execution.
Represent the company during audits, inspections, and site visits conducted by regulatory bodies and customers.
Emphasize proactive safety metrics and leading indicators (e.g., unsafe conditions, near misses).
Conduct formal, systematic environmental compliance reviews aligned with CAA, CWA, RCRA, TSCA, SARA, and local/state regulations.
Perform comprehensive safety compliance audits, including OSHA standards, machine guarding, LOTO, working at heights, powered industrial vehicles, confined space entry, and emergency preparedness.
Engage with external regulators for compliance assurance, periodic reporting, and inspections.
Align site-level EHS&S programs with broader business unit, segment, and enterprise strategies.
Monitor and interpret changes in regulatory requirements to ensure timely compliance.
Provide regular compliance status updates and audit results to plant leadership, business unit EHS&S directors, and enterprise leadership.
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field required.
Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience in heavy manufacturing with regulatory oversight, including at least 2 years as a site EHS Manager.
Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) strongly preferred.
Expertise in hazardous waste management, stormwater, wastewater, air compliance, chemical management, SPCC coordination, EPCRA reporting, and emergency response.
Strong technical knowledge of machine safety, LOTO, confined space entry, fall protection, and powered industrial vehicles.
Proven leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; able to influence at all organizational levels.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and make data-driven, risk-based decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS data management systems.
Demonstrated success in implementing EHS management systems within a manufacturing environment.
